David is an adept storyteller, and he is passionate about the benefits engineering has for our communities. His key focus is delivering pragmatic, constructible designs through collaboration and engagement with stakeholders.
David lead the Coastal Structures Team, within the Structural Design Group at NCTIR, who were responsible for delivering the design of the massive seawalls and other coastal protection works leading up to reopening the road and rail networks. He got involved early with NCTIR and has seen the many twists and turns along the journey and is now the Building Consents Manager for.
David has made a career out of rebuilding after natural disasters. Prior to NCTIR he was the Geotechnical Lead at SCIRT, a $2.5b program of works to rebuild Christchurch’s infrastructure following the 2010/2011 Canterbury Earthquake Sequence.
This presentation will cover the wide range of works that NCTIR undertook to move mountains and reconnect communities following the 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake.
