Asparagus production is heavily dependent on manual crop harvesting, but fewer people are willing to do the job. As a result, asparagus production in Western countries like the USA have dropped by as much as 66% over the last 15 years. The University of Waikato and Robotics Plus aim to solve this by developing a robot that will automate the harvesting process. Our early-stage prototype has just returned from successful field testing in California and is on display at HortNZ.
