Biography

Wayne Hall – Wi Pere Trust

My name is Wayne Hall, and my current role is General Manager of Horticulture for the Wi Pere Trust which is based in Gisborne. Our diverse horticultural business consists of 80 ha of plantings, which include gold kiwifruit, blueberries, apples, persimmons and citrus. In 2023 we entered the prestigious Ahuwhenua Trophy, Excellence in Maori Horticulture Competition. The competition consisted of two rounds of judging, where our operation was benchmarked against other Maori growers across the key criteria of Governance and Strategy, Financial and Benchmarking, Nga Tikanga Maori, Kaitiakitanga, Innovation, Customer Focus and Environmental Sustainability. Our trust was firstly selected as a finalist, and then announced the overall winner in June. It was an extremely proud moment for myself, alongside the rest of the Wi Pere Trust board, whanau and staff. It has been extremely rewarding to be part of the Wi Pere ‘journey’ since 2010, and I look forward to assisting with the further expansion of our successful horticultural business, as we continue to grow in the future.
