Soonie Chng

Soonie is a Senior Scientist at Plant & Food Research. Her research expertise is in arable and vegetable pathology, with a primary focus on the management of both airborne and soilborne diseases, such as cereal rust diseases, take all of wheat and root rot of vegetables. She works closely with the New Zealand cropping industries (e.g. Process Vegetables New Zealand and Foundation for Arable Research) and collaborates with international peers on management of major crop diseases. Her recent research includes development of Ramularia leaf spot management strategies with the cereal industry, management of myrtle rust, soft alternative control options for vegetable diseases and cold-tolerating rhizobia for New Zealand pea production.
